At the border with Tuscany, it starts from the coast going up the river Magra, reaches the wetlands, and goes on to the green hills of the Val di Magra.

There are over 800 km of excursions along the rivers Magra and Vara, a stretch of the Alta Via dei Monti liguri and numerous paths below the mountains; there is also diving, boating (canoes and kayaks), rafting, canyoning and horseback riding.

Old villages and castles are present in the whole territory from Sarzana to Brugnato, like the Doria Malaspina di Calice al Cornoviglio Castle and the Ameglia castle, and then the historic area of Montemarcello and the Roman villa of Bocca di Magra.
