Rapallo

The centre of Tigullio, which developed around a small historic area and a splendid sea promenade. Here there is one of the most famous golf courses

At Rapallo there is everything you can need for a beautiful holiday on the Riviera. The historic area is crossed by the caruggio (Via Mazzini), parallel to the waterfront, with shops.
The Vittorio Veneto waterfront is an elegant walk in the shade of palm trees; halfway along boats berth with which the other places on the Gulf are reached. It is a succession of outside places with bars, ice cream parlours, hotels and restaurants.
A must is a visit to the Montallegro Sanctuary, which is attainable by cable car and affords a splendid view of Tigullio. Among events, from 1 to 3 July there is the Feast of Our Lady of Montallegro, with fireworks on the sea.

The equipped bathing establishments are at the edge of the waterfront. Towards Zoagli, at the end of the waterfront there is the former Convent of the Clarisses, today an auditorium, and the building symbolising Rapallo, the old Sea Castle (1550). It has two harbours with 900 boat places. San Michele di Pagana is a hamlet of Rapallo, a splendid natural inlet, in the direction of Santa Margherita.
You can visit the Lace Museum in the seventeenth-century Villa Tigullio and taste cubeletti, typical sweetmeats with jam in them. Near the Rapallo motorway exit there is the Rapallo Golf and Tennis Club, with an 18-hole golf course among the most highly rated in Italy, next to the ruins of Valle Christi, an old Cistercian monastery.
