Two towns in one. Albissola Marina and Albisola Superiore are differentiated by an “s”, perhaps a 16th-century transcription error, but there is a very strong bond between them: art. For centuries this territory has been a land of ceramics and Albisola coloured masterpieces are appreciated all over the world.

It is easy to be struck by the beauty of Albisola ceramics, after a day spent under the umbrellas that colour the beach and after a swim in the warm waters of the sea for years awarded the Blue Flag. You can wander around the town, admiring the windows of numerous workshops, enter to buy an art piece, or stroll along the seafront of Artists, a ceramic mosaic paving created in 1962 as a tribute to all the artists who have worked in Albissola.

The place has been visited by remarkable and innovative characters like Lucio Fontana and Asger Jorn, the latter being an important Danish artist who settled here and donated his home-museum to the town. Between the green hills and the blue sea there wind the streets of the old town of Albisola Superiore: every artist has left a mark and following the path from the centre to the coast you can scroll through the history of ceramics. Appreciated for the wonderful beach and the hills behind, the Albisolas are an ideal place for a holiday in both summer and winter thanks to the mild climate.
